A Cuban vaccine against lung cancer has proved its effectiveness. Cuban research is giving priority to fighting cancer.
Lung cancer is considered one of the most serious, frequent and fatal cancers in the world. According to the World Health Organization this disease kills 5 million people each year, and this disease is on the rise.
Researchers at the Molecular Immunology Center in Havana have developed the Cimavax EGF therapeutic vaccine. They believe that through this drug, lung cancer could become a chronic controllable disease. However, it does not prevent the illness.
The vaccine promotes the generation of antibodies against the proteins that trigger the uncontrolled proliferation of carcinogenic cells.
The vaccine is used in patients with advanced lung cancer (stage 3 and 4), who had no positive response to other treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy. It also significantly improves the quality of life of terminal patients.
It reduces pain, increases the life expectancy of patients in phases 3 or 4, all without the side effects known to chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
The efficacy of the CimaVax-EGF vaccine has been proven at the end of lung cancer control.
The CimaVax-EGF vaccine is not intended to prevent or cure the disease, but to control the proliferation of cancer cells in patients with lung cancer.
